Firefighters located two people inside the building and removed both to safety. One individual was transported to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. The second person was evaluated at the scene and was not injured.
Crews brought the fire under control and ensured the scene was safe before clearing the area, according to the release.
“Today’s response reflects the high level of training, readiness, and dedication of our firefighters,” Anniston Fire Chief Johnnie Phelps said. “Our personnel performed with excellence and exemplified our commitment to protecting life and property.”
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
