Stephen Parkinson has been grilled today by a parliamentary committee about his decision not to continue the case against two British men accused of espionage for China. He said prosecutors "weren't quite there" when it came to establishing that Beijing posed a threat to national security between 2021 and 2023 when the alleged offences by Chris Cash and Christopher Berry took place But when prosecutors asked a key witness – Matt Collins, the deputy national security adviser – to state these specific words about the threat, it proved to be a "sticking point" after 14 months of waiting for a response.
