When rescuers from the Boonie Flight Project spotted a stray dog stumbling through a neighborhood with a jar stuck tightly over her head, their hearts sank. She was weak, frightened, and dangerously malnourished, struggling to breathe and unable to see where she was going. No one knew how long she had been trapped inside that jar, but one thing was clear: she needed help right away.

Stephanie, one of the rescuers, recalled the urgency of the moment. “Luckily, one of our volunteers was right there with the net, and they got her,” she explained. The team rushed the dog back to their facility, where they carefully removed the jar. Though it came off easily, the real challenge was just beginning.
Once free, the dog backed into a corner, trembling and too afraid to move. Her wide eyes told the story of neglect and cruelty she must have endured on the streets. “It took her time to learn that people are OK,” Stephanie said. “She clearly wants to interact with people, but she’s still so unsure.”

The team named her Winnie and made it their mission to give her the second chance she deserved. After receiving medical treatment, Winnie was placed in a loving foster home. Surrounded by other animals, she watched them interact with humans and realized, slowly but surely, that kindness and safety were possible. “Being in a foster home with other animals, she was able to witness animals receiving love and attention from people,” Stephanie explained.

In time, Winnie’s gentle nature began to shine through. That’s when Mary, a compassionate woman who saw her story, stepped forward to adopt her. At first, Winnie didn’t even know how to play with other dogs. But Mary’s pup, Maple, quickly took her under her wing. “She watched Maple to see how Maple behaved with everybody. And slowly, she’s building that trust,” Mary said. “She is definitely part of a pack now.”

What followed was a transformation nothing short of miraculous. Winnie, once a terrified stray with a jar over her head, became a joyful family dog who now runs, plays, and cuddles freely. She has a safe home, a warm bed, and the unconditional love she had been denied for so long.

Winnie’s story is a powerful reminder that compassion changes everything. With patience, care, and love, even the most broken spirits can heal. Today, Winnie is not just surviving — she’s thriving, finally living the life that every dog deserves.
