Some heroes don’t wear capes, they wear work uniforms and carry tools. A Detroit electrician named Marc proved that compassion can shine through even in the most unexpected places when he spotted two helpless puppies while on the job.

At first, he wasn’t sure what he was seeing, but as he stepped closer, he realized the heartbreaking truth. Two small dogs were sitting alone, one appearing injured, both thin and clearly struggling to survive.
Despite their fear, Marc could tell they wanted help. “I normally keep treats on my truck but I ran out…they wanted to trust me but they just weren’t sure,” he later shared on Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue’s Facebook page.
Knowing time was critical, Marc contacted Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue (DPCDR), a nonprofit known for rescuing injured and abandoned animals across the city. Within hours, the rescue team arrived, led by director Theresa Sumpter.

Sumpter and her team patiently tried to earn their trust, using gentle voices and some tasty treats. It took nearly half an hour of patience and kindness before the pups finally approached, their tails tentatively wagging. That small moment of courage changed their lives forever.
The team transported the siblings to a nearby veterinary hospital for a full examination. The pups, later named Grace and Mercy, were both malnourished and scared. One had minor injuries, and both suffered from infections caused by neglect.

After two weeks of constant love and socialization, the once-fearful pups began to show their true personalities — playful, sweet, and full of energy.
“They’ve come such a long way,” Sumpter said. “All it took was a little bit of love and patience.”
Now healthy and confident, Grace and Mercy are officially ready for adoption. Their rescuers are hopeful they’ll soon find forever homes where they’ll never have to worry about being hungry or scared again.
