Punch, a Japanese macaque living at the Ichikawa City Zoological and Botanical Garden in Japan, was abandoned by his mother shortly after his birth. Zoo staff believe the mother was simply too exhausted to care for him. With no parent to cling to, the newborn relied entirely on his keepers, who worked tirelessly to give him a chance at life.

Among those celebrating was Kobe resident Kumi Ishizawa, who first discovered Punch through social media. His determination gave her encouragement during her own health challenges. She said visiting Punch became a personal goal while recovering from illness. After regaining her health and completing a business trip, she finally visited the zoo in person, describing the experience as deeply moving and rewarding.

Another devoted supporter, Yeye Lights, had lived in Ichikawa for years without ever visiting the zoo. After hearing about Punch from her daughter in the Philippines, she became such a dedicated fan that she purchased an annual pass. She even prepared a birthday cake to celebrate Punch with friends while expressing gratitude to the keepers who helped save his life.
