From centuries-old traditions and major sporting events to food festivals and Halloween thrills, Hong Kong turns up the excitement this fall.

HONG KONG — Autumn is shaping up to be one of the most exciting seasons to visit Hong Kong. From September through November, the city will host a packed calendar of cultural celebrations, sporting events, culinary experiences, and entertainment, giving travelers plenty of reasons to explore beyond its famous skyline.

As the city continues to build its reputation as the Events Capital of Asia, visitors can look forward to a mix of experiences that showcase the many sides of Hong Kong—from traditional festivals and harborfront celebrations to energetic neighborhoods, outdoor adventures, and some of Asia’s most anticipated food and entertainment events.

Whether you’re an active traveler, culture enthusiast, foodie, or nightlife lover, there is something happening across the city this fall.

For travelers who prefer to explore a destination on two wheels, the Sun Hung Kai Properties Hong Kong Cyclothon returns on October 11, 2026.

As Hong Kong’s largest annual cycling event, the Cyclothon offers participants a unique way to experience the city. Riders can choose between 56-kilometer and 32-kilometer non-competitive routes, both designed to showcase Hong Kong’s impressive urban scenery.

The experience goes beyond simply cycling from one point to another. Participants can ride across major roads temporarily closed to traffic, pass through tunnels, and cross some of the city’s most recognizable bridges. It is a rare opportunity to experience Hong Kong’s busy urban landscape from an entirely different perspective.

Registration opens at 10:00 a.m. on August 20, 2026. Travelers planning to participate should review the official event information and registration requirements before the race.

The excitement continues at the Cyclothon Carnival at the West Kowloon Cultural District, where the day expands into a celebration featuring sports, entertainment, family activities, and food.

Experience the Magic of Mid-Autumn Festival

For a more traditional Hong Kong experience, autumn begins with the Mid-Autumn Festival, one of the city’s most beloved annual celebrations.

The festival is deeply connected to family, togetherness, and the tradition of gathering under the full moon. For visitors, it is also an opportunity to experience Hong Kong’s cultural heritage through lantern displays, mooncakes, and traditional performances.

From September 17 to 27, Victoria Park will host a large-scale international Mid-Autumn lantern display featuring elaborate illuminated installations. Among the highlights are the famous Qinhuai Lanterns from Nanjing and an International Lantern Corridor showcasing lantern artistry from more than 20 countries.

Tai Hang Fire DragonTai Hang Fire Dragon

One of the season’s most memorable cultural experiences will take place in Tai Hang from September 24 to 26, when the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance brings the neighborhood to life.

The centuries-old tradition combines fire, incense, and elaborate dragon choreography, creating an atmospheric spectacle that gives visitors a glimpse into one of Hong Kong’s most distinctive cultural traditions.

Eat and Drink Your Way Through Hong Kong

Hong Kong’s reputation as one of Asia’s great food capitals takes center stage at the Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival, taking place from October 29 to November 1 at the Central Harbourfront.

Set against the backdrop of Victoria Harbor, the festival brings together more than 300 booths offering wines, food, and culinary experiences from Hong Kong and around the world. Visitors can expect tastings, food and wine pairings, live entertainment, and opportunities to discover new flavors.

A new highlight this year is “Only in Hong Kong” Flavors, which will bring together signature dishes from more than 100 restaurants. The lineup will include Michelin-starred restaurants, luxury hotels, and popular local establishments, offering visitors an easy way to sample the diversity of Hong Kong’s dining scene in one place.

The food celebration continues throughout November with Hong Kong Wine & Dine Month. Restaurants, hotels, and bars across the city will offer special menus, dining promotions, and curated culinary experiences, making it an ideal time for travelers to build an entire trip around food.

From Cantonese classics and dim sum to contemporary creations and international cuisine, fall offers plenty of opportunities to eat your way across the city.

Get Ready for Hong Kong’s First Citywide Halloween Celebration

Halloween is getting a major makeover in Hong Kong this year with the city’s first-ever citywide Halloween celebration.

Throughout October, different neighborhoods will embrace the season with themed activities, food and beverage collaborations, parties, and immersive experiences. Instead of being concentrated in a single attraction, Halloween festivities will spread across the city, giving travelers plenty of ways to join the fun.

Lan Kwai FongLan Kwai Fong

Lan Kwai Fong will once again be one of the major destinations for nightlife and street-party action, while Knutsford Terrace and SoHo will offer themed food and drinks.

Those looking to put together a Halloween costume can explore Pottinger Street in Central, Tai Yuen Street in Wan Chai, and Fuk Wing Street in Sham Shui Po, where visitors can find plenty of costume and party-related items.

The Halloween festivities will build toward the main celebration on October 31, with pre-heat weekends scheduled for October 17 and 24.

Hong Kong’s major attractions will also join the celebrations. Hong Kong Disneyland and Ocean Park are expected to bring back their signature Halloween experiences, adding themed entertainment and plenty of spooky fun to the city’s autumn calendar.

A Season Made for Exploring Hong Kong

What makes autumn particularly appealing in Hong Kong is the variety of experiences available within a relatively compact destination. Travelers can spend one day exploring traditional neighborhoods and cultural celebrations, another cycling through the city’s dramatic urban landscape, and another sampling food and wine beside Victoria Harbour.

The season also provides an opportunity to see familiar parts of Hong Kong in a different light. Victoria Park becomes a canvas of illuminated lanterns, Tai Hang comes alive with its legendary fire dragon, the Central waterfront transforms into a culinary playground, and the city’s nightlife districts embrace Halloween with characteristic energy.

For travelers planning a Hong Kong getaway, fall offers a compelling combination of culture, food, sports, entertainment, and nightlife—all packed into one of Asia’s most dynamic cities.
