PRESS RELEASE

MIAMI — First Due, a provider of cloud-based Fire & EMS software, supported NERIS V1.5 from Day 1, giving fire departments access to the latest reporting capabilities as soon as the updated standard went live. The release reinforces First Due’s commitment to keeping agencies current as national reporting standards continue to evolve.

NERIS V1.5 introduces additional incident types, actions, tactics, and reporting options informed by the fire service. More specific categories, including ice rescues and agricultural vehicle fires, help departments document the work their crews perform with greater precision.

First Due made the new NERIS V1.5 reporting capabilities available from Day 1, so agencies could use them without waiting for a subsequent software release. This readiness reflects First Due’s broader commitment to comprehensive incident documentation, capturing the operational detail departments rely on beyond minimum national submission requirements. Agencies including CAL FIRE, Ventura County, FDNY, and West Metro have trusted First Due as a technology partner built for the future as they navigate NERIS—one of the most significant reporting transitions in recent fire service history.

“Departments may not realize the risks of falling behind a NERIS update. Reports can be accepted while newer incident detail is left out, and crews may have to use broader categories that do not fully describe incidents,” said Chris French, Technology Council Member at IAFC and NERIS Expert at First Due. “Departments should challenge their software providers to keep them current. Our commitment is to be ready on Day 1 because our customers protect lives, and their technology should move with the urgency that mission demands.”

When a receiving system does not recognize a new NERIS value, that value may not be imported even if the incident is accepted. Timely standard updates help agencies avoid gaps between the detail they document, and the information included in their submitted records. NERIS V1.5 adds optional reporting capabilities. While lacking these updates does not automatically mean noncompliance, it can leave gaps in an agency’s incident documentation.

As NERIS continues to evolve, First Due is building for ongoing change. Day 1 readiness demonstrates how the company approaches future-proofing: keeping reporting capabilities aligned with the latest standards while continuing to support the broader operational needs of fire departments.
