Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayIn southern Brazil, rising temperatures and heavier rainfall are increasing flood risks, washing away fertile soils and threatening rural livelihoods. Indigenous and traditional communities are responding by strengthening agroforestry systems that protect forests while generating income. With support from the UNDP-Adaptation Fund Climate Innovation Accelerator (AFCIA), Centro Ecológico is working with Mbya Guarani, Quilombola and smallholder communities in Rio Grande do Sul and southern Santa Catarina to expand juçara açaí agroforests. Communities are boosting açaí production without deforestation by cultivating native palm trees within forest ecosystems, restoring biodiversity and reducing reliance on pesticides. More than 360 households are now participating in the initiative, which has generated new income opportunities, supported environmental education and strengthened climate resilience, demonstrating how conservation and livelihoods can grow together.
