On the morning before the main parade, Mr. Gabriel Delago invited us to the RTC radio studio in Mindelo. The television studio is located in a different part of the city. There, he introduced himself and some of his colleagues and explained RTC’s mission. Mr. Gabriel Delago is both a journalist and a cameraman at Tele Cabo Verde and currently works at Radio Televisão Cabo Verde. He has been working for the broadcaster for 34 years and is 53. He lives in Mindelo. Mindelo is the city of Carnival—the largest Carnival in Cape Verde. Mr. Gabriel Delago is currently responsible for the administration of radio and television operations. RTC operates radio stations, the general-interest channels RTC and RTC+, as well as television stations: Kanal TCV and Television Cabo Verde International, which serves the diaspora in the U.S. and Europe. The broadcaster is also available in Germany and France, as well as in Asia and South America. RTC also has a website, rtc.cv, and a strong social media presence on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. When asked what he likes about Mindelo, he explains that it is an extraordinary city. It has a beautiful beach, friendly people, good food, and festivals such as Carnival, New Year’s Eve, and the Baía das Gatas Festival, the largest music festival in Cape Verde, which attracts many people from the islands, as well as international tourists. He then introduces various staff members and their roles: Maria Rodrigues, the editor-in-chief, as well as Patricia Martins and José Pedro Santos, who work in radio, multimedia, and television. Josinieda Monteiro is in charge of technical operations, and Nelson Neves is the sound engineer and studio manager. The facility also has its own live studio. To wrap things up, he shows us the view from the terrace. Thanks to its central location, there is a magnificent view of Mindelo Bay and the city center. Auf die Frage, was ihm an Mindelo gefällt, erklärt er, dass es eine außergewöhnliche Stadt ist. Sie besitzt einen herrlichen Strand, liebenswerte Menschen, gutes Essen und Feste wie den Karneval, den Jahreswechsel und das Festival Baía das Gatas – das größte Musikfestival auf den Kapverden –, an dem viele Menschen von den Inseln und internationale Touristen teilnehmen. Anschließend stellt er verschiedene Mitarbeiter und ihre Arbeitsplätze vor: Maria Rodrigues, die Redaktionschefin, sowie Patricia Martins und José Pedro Santos für Radio, Multimedia und Fernsehen. Josinieda Monteiro ist für die Technik zuständig und Nelson Neves ist Toningenieur und Studioleiter. Die Räumlichkeiten verfügen auch über ein eigenes Livestudio. Zum Abschluss zeigt er uns von der Terrasse. Durch die zentrale Lagehat man von hier eine herrliche Aussicht auf die Bucht von Mindelo und das Stadtzentrum. Leider ist die Sicht durch den Sahara-Staub (Bruma Seca) gerade etwas getrübt. Wir sind sehr dankbar für die nette Vorführung und die Einblicke in die Arbeit hinter den Kulissen.
