The Krakatau volcano just produced its largest explosive eruption since 1883. Hundreds of airline flights were cancelled, and an eruption plume rose up to altitudes of 50,000 feet. And, during the main eruptive phase which has since ended, up to 5,000 foot high lava fountains were generated.
