Sir Keir Starmer has vowed to stay on as prime minister after presiding over one of Labour's worst ever local election performances. Despite Labour losing control of 35 councils and more than 1,300 seats in England, Sir Keir said he is "not going to walk away and plunge the country into chaos" - although he did acknowledge that the results were "tough" for his party. Meanwhile, Nigel Farage said the results marked a "truly historic shift in UK politics", predicting that the prime minister will be "gone by midsummer" as Reform UK's turquoise wave crashed over Labour's heartlands.
