The largest earthquake to ever strike within Louisiana occurred yesterday, shaking much of the state for as much as 10 seconds. Registering in as a magnitude 4.9, this earthquake was unusual, and in my opinion was likely accidentally induced by the natural gas industry. Specifically, due to wastewater injection rather than fracking. Thumbnail Photo Credit: Google Earth. Data SIO, NOAA, U.S. Navy, NGA, GEBCO, Image Landsat / Copernicus.
