The magnitude of the tremor was about 5.3 and it occurred at a relatively shallow depth. Strong shaking was felt across the region of Epirus and near the border with Albania. Residents reported rattling windows, swaying lamps, and objects falling from shelves. Many people rushed outside their homes as the tremor lasted several seconds. The shaking was also felt in nearby cities including Konitsa, Arta, and Preveza. Seismologists recorded several weaker aftershocks following the main quake. Authorities and engineers began inspecting buildings and infrastructure while monitoring the seismic activity.
