The quakes hit just 39 seconds apart, approximately 100 miles west of the capital, Caracas. The port city of Katia Lamar in the state of La Guera is among the hardest hit areas. The UN has warned of the need for a massive collective effort in the coming days, while the UK has deployed a search and rescue team.
