Traffic cams are usually about as exciting as you’d expect. Car after car. A few trucks. Maybe the occasional weather update. But one Brazilian highway cam got an upgrade that no one could have predicted, a surprise guest with feathers and flair.

On a stretch of highway known as BR-116 in Curitiba, a curious little parrot decided to investigate a surveillance camera up close. We’re not talking about a fly-by. This bird planted itself right in front of the lens, giving viewers at home an unexpected show. The camera feed went from ordinary to extraordinary in seconds, and the camera operator was caught completely off guard.

As the video caption explains, “A parrot decided to appear in a surveillance camera of the BR-116, in Curitiba.” The unexpected star of the show was later identified as a turquoise-fronted amazon, a stunning green and yellow bird native to Brazil. With vibrant colors and an even brighter personality, this feathered friend looked like it had something important to say, or maybe it just wanted to see what all the fuss was about.

The bird’s close-up moment quickly gained attention online. Who wouldn’t be captivated by such a bold little character staring straight into the camera like it was a news anchor? It’s not every day that a highway cam turns into a wildlife documentary, and the parrot’s confidence made it even more entertaining.

Turquoise-fronted amazons are known for being intelligent, social birds. Many are kept as pets due to their playful nature and ability to mimic human speech. But this one? It seemed to prefer the wild and the spotlight. Whether it was looking for food, a friend, or just a bit of fame, the parrot definitely got what it came for, a viral moment and a whole new fan base.
