Nagoya has been hit by an unprecedented rainstorm, with 104.5 millimeters of rain falling in just one hour. The rainfall set a new record for Nagoya, surpassing records dating back to 1890. A powerful rainband caused rivers across Aichi Prefecture to rise rapidly. The Shonai River and its Yada River tributary became major sources of flood danger. Authorities issued the highest Level 5 flood warning for the Shonai River and urged residents in dangerous areas to seek safety. Extreme rainfall also disrupted public transportation, including buses and subway services, while some low-lying areas were flooded. Although some warnings were later lifted, authorities continued monitoring the rivers as the risk of further flooding and landslides remained.
