Cecil: The Lion and the Dentist

10pm, Channel 4
There was worldwide outrage after the 2015 shooting of a Zimbabwean lion, Cecil, by an American trophy hunter, Walter Palmer. This documentary approaches the story from several angles. There’s the story of the pile-on – Palmer became a pariah in the aftermath of his grim holiday. But there’s also a potted history of Hwange national park where Cecil lived, its role in the local economy and the vexed question of the value of nature (spiritual and financial) to the community. Phil Harrison

George Clarke’s Building Home

8pm, Channel 4
“I’d have rather gone to the Maldives … ” So says Sophie, whose renovation soars over budget. As is the case in Clarke’s gentle property series, there’s more to it: Sophie is driven by a desire to bring her grandparents’ former home back to life – and to bag her very own pink kitchen island. Grantchester

This film re-examines the 2008 court case where the ex-merchant seaman dubbed “the Suffolk Strangler” claimed to be innocent. Graeme Virtue

Hunting Outback Gold

9pm, U&Yesterday

In 1931, prospector Harold Lasseter died trying to find a stash of gold he insisted was buried in the central Australian outback. Can two cheery blokes called Jeff and Brendan now fulfil their childhood dream of proving Lasseter right? Episode one of this new series features some exciting metal-detecting. Jack Seale

Random Acts: 1763

12.05am, Channel 4
The Random Acts strand has long been the place to discover new film- and TV-making talent; an anything-goes showcase for experimental, short-form visionaries. The latest edition is Nicola Stead’s look at what happens after a woman flees domestic violence, with a focus on how Greater Manchester police have handled abuse cases. Ellen E Jones
