The UEFA Champions League Legacy Anthem is a majestic orchestral and choral composition by British composer Tony Britten, combining powerful choral harmonies with triumphant brass and sweeping strings to capture the grandeur of European football. Through themes of excellence, competition and sporting achievement, the anthem celebrates the continent's greatest football clubs and the prestige of competing at the highest level. Sung in English, French and German, its lyrics praise the participating teams and repeatedly proclaim the champions, creating an unmistakable sense of anticipation as players prepare to take the field. The UEFA Champions League Anthem has become one of the most recognizable pieces of music in international sport, accompanying the competition's pre match ceremonies and television broadcasts for more than three decades. Its origins lie in George Frideric Handel's Zadok the Priest, a coronation anthem composed in 1727 for King George II of Great Britain. Tony Britten drew inspiration from Handel's dramatic orchestral writing, adapting its ceremonial character into a new composition for UEFA's emerging Champions League competition. Commissioned for the inaugural UEFA Champions League season in 1992, the anthem was composed and arranged by Tony Britten as part of the competition's transformation from the European Cup. The original recording was performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields Chorus, giving the anthem its distinctive combination of classical grandeur and modern sporting identity. 🎵 Listen to more from UEFA on their official music streaming sites: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7PekulWYHcZ8WZ1-dWRQow https://open.spotify.com/artist/2dams9psI8ss1wZd2l62Xe https://music.apple.com/us/artist/uefa/1501740338 🎨 Artwork by Thomas M.
