NEW YORK — An FDNY fire truck racing to an emergency fatally struck a woman crossing a Bronx street, police said Saturday.

The firetruck from Engine 82 was responding to a call for help and had its emergency lights and sirens going at about 11:15 p.m. Friday when it struck the woman at the corner of Intervale Ave. and Chisholm St. in Morrisania, cops said.

The emergency call came from a fire alarm call box at a street corner several blocks away, officials said.

The firetruck was heading north on Intervale Ave. when it hit the woman, cops said. The corner where the crash occurred has no crosswalk, officials said.

The 34-year-old firefighter driving the truck remained at the scene with the rig as EMS rushed the critically injured woman to St. Barnabas Hospital, where she died.

Cops were trying to identify the woman on Saturday.

The emergency the firetruck was responding to was reassigned to another fire company, officials said.

No charges were immediately filed as police continue to investigate.
