I wouldn't expect this to last long.
Trend is for close in activity.
Homegrown.
An area is marked in Global Tropical Hazards.
Water is warm.
Shear is low today.
And the area is moist.
Lastly the EPAC has also gone quiet. Finally.
Generally when the EPAC is quiet the Atlantic wakes up.
Historically speaking.
Love cruising around Mike's site.
So many links, so much data everywhere.
This link from the links shown above...
Takes you to this page.
Good info there and other links.
Many people after recent floods in various areas were surprised they were ot covered by their insurance for flooding. Not everyone is experienced at the buying Insurance and it's important to look into what you are and aren't covered for if you are concerned on both hurricane season and flooding. His site has much information on it so when you have some time don't just look at the pictures ;)
I was offline most of yesterday. There was a death in my very extended family of someone I worked for and with and I was close to his wife who predeceased him as well as his kids. He was old, in his early 90s and had an amazing life doing good work helping others so I was also remembering his life and in ways my part in it. Memories flooded back to me as friends called to talk it out. And, there was nothing going on in the Tropics.
Sadly they are still looking for bodies that are missing in Texas. I'd like to believe they will find some alive but with every passing hour and day that hope fades fast. Many questions to be answered but currently we have to let them do their job. Texas Hill Country does flood and many factors made this a worse case scenario sadly.
Anyway I'm supposed to have severe weather today and there's a chance of flooding in areas that flooded from Chantal. People need to learn flooding happens from Tropical Depressions and even Potentical Tropical Cyclones. Last year over 20 inches flooded out Carolina Beach and other nearby beach towns in NC. While the locals were aware there was a chance of a tropical cyclone forming there was an awareness of strong weather but no real heads up on that level of flooding attributed to a once in a ... does it matter? I feel as if every bad flooding event is raised to "well it was a once in a lifetime flooding event" as if that's an excuse for a having higher level awareness. There were strong winds and many local meteorologists asked why there was no upgrade or name given and the NHC had their answers. I thought perhaps it'd be upgraded in post season analysis but alas it was not.
Link to the NWS report...
"Regardless of the nature of the storm, Potential Tropical Cyclone Eight brought historic rainfall and flash flooding to parts of Brunswick and southern New Hanover counties. Storm total rainfall totals of 12 to 20 inches were recorded within a 25-mile wide stripe running from Carolina Beach and Southport through Bolivia, the Green Swamp, and ending south of the Delco community in eastern Columbus County. The majority of this rain fell within a 12 hour window between 5:00 am and 5:00 pm on Monday, September 16. Flash flooding quickly developed in Carolina Beach during the morning hours, then shifted northwestward following the heaviest rainfall rates as the center of Potential Tropical Cyclone Eight shifted onshore."
Love when they say "regardless" it usually means they know it might be controversial and some will argue the fact. I'll tell you part of it came thru Raleigh and it packed a punch. When your business is flooded it's not an academic problem or question it's a tragedy and people have questions.
Many had things to say.
Just a PTC 8
Reed definitely has a way with words :)
"log jam of supercells in a feeder band on steroids"
Bottom Line:
A downgraded TS to TD can deliver deadly flooding.
5 people died in Chanal from flooding in NC .
A PTC can really wreck your world with flooding.
A crappy set up in Texas can be horribly deadly.
More than 130 missing still - 119 dead.
No words.
Doesn't have to be a Cat 5 or F 5.....
