The 12-year Army veteran and Raywick firefighter died three days after being ejected when his engine overturned en route to a call

MARION COUNTY, Ky. — A Raywick firefighter has died from injuries sustained in a fire truck rollover while responding to a call in Marion County.

The crash occurred on Aug. 22, seriously injuring both firefighters aboard. Lieutenant Brian Jay Hatt died at University of Louisville Hospital on Aug. 25, WHAS 11 reported.

“Brian was surrounded by his wife, his family, his friends, his fire department family, and the loving staff of the University of Louisville Hospital,” Michael Wright said on behalf of the Raywick Fire Department.

The Raywick fire engine was responding to assist the Loretto Fire Department when it overturned after its wheels slipped off the shoulder and the road edge collapsed, causing the fire engine to overturn.

Hatt was ejected, and another firefighter was trapped inside.

Hatt served 12 years in the Army and another 12 with the fire department, his family said.
