Deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department are searching for a man accused of breaking into his former apartment in West Hollywood and violently killing his ex-roommate’s dog.

Investigators identified the suspect as 27-year-old Anmol Bhatia, who they say had recently been removed from the residence on the 1200 block of Harper Avenue. According to authorities, the break-in occurred just after 11:35 p.m. on September 4.
Security camera footage from the building allegedly shows Bhatia forcing his way inside and immediately attacking the dog. Detectives reported that the animal was beaten to death shortly after the break-in. Notably, nothing was stolen from the apartment, leading investigators to believe the assault was deliberate and targeted rather than an attempted burglary.
The sheriff’s department released Bhatia’s description in hopes of generating tips from the public. He is described as 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing about 160 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Detectives also circulated his photo to make it easier for residents to identify him.

Community members have responded with outrage and heartbreak, expressing grief for the loss of the dog and frustration at the shocking violence. Local animal advocates emphasized that cruelty of this nature not only devastates families but also leaves lasting scars on the community as a whole.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about Bhatia’s whereabouts to immediately contact the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station at (310) 855-8850. For those who wish to remain anonymous, tips can be submitted through LA Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477 or online at lacrimestoppers.org.

The sheriff’s department stressed that bringing the suspect into custody is a priority and that community vigilance could play a critical role in the investigation. As deputies continue their search, the tragic killing of the dog stands as a sobering reminder of the profound impact acts of cruelty have on families and neighborhoods.
