A construction worker jumped from an upper floor to escape the fire at the North Las Vegas construction site

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Two people were injured after apartment buildings under construction in North Las Vegas caught fire Tuesday morning.

The North Las Vegas Fire Department responded to the 6500 block of North 5th Street, near East Centennial Parkway, just before 7 a.m., according to an email from the city of North Las Vegas.

“A male construction worker jumped from a building’s upper story and was transported to University Medical Center with potentially life-threatening injuries,” the email said.

Another firefighter was taken to a local hospital for heat-related illness and was released, according to the email.

“Approximately 25 apparatus and 75 personnel responded to the scene,” the city said.

Fire crews arrived to find “heavy smoke and fire involving multiple three-story apartment buildings under construction,” the email said.

The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
