Tonka and Little P: Finding Hope After Heartbreak

The bond between dogs and their humans is unbreakable, and Tonka and Little P’s story is a testament to that love and loyalty. These two pups lost their dad, Kris Busching, in a tragic hiking accident but have now found their way to a new life together.

When the accident occurred, Kris fell and died instantly. Despite Tonka’s serious injuries—both of his front legs were broken—neither dog left his side until help arrived. At the veterinary clinic, Little P refused to leave his brother, staying by him even as Tonka was prepared for surgery. Because Tonka needed specialized care and time to heal, the dogs were temporarily separated, placed with different foster families for the first time in their lives.

Crysti, Kris’s cousin, took in Little P, knowing it would be only temporary. With multiple dogs already in the family, they couldn’t keep the pair permanently but were determined to find them a forever home where they could stay together. After careful searching, the perfect match came in the form of Brandon and Heilea, who welcomed both Tonka and Little P into their family.

Their reunion was nothing short of emotional. The brothers howled together in what their loved ones described as a tribute to Kris, a way of sending a message to the dad they had lost.
