The problem with illegal migrants arriving in the UK on small boats "remains formidable", a Home Office minister has said. Official figures show more than 25,000 people have arrived on small boats so far in 2025 - a record for this point in the year. "This is an issue that is very complex and there's no one silver bullet that's going to fix it," Angela Eagle said. "Anyone who thinks that it's going to be fixed immediately with the pressing of one button, doesn't understand how complex and difficult this is."
