TWINSBURG, Ohio — An 8-month-old baby is in good condition after he was rescued from a house fire Sunday by Twinsburg firefighters.

A news release from the Twinsburg Fire Department says the fire at the home on Simsbury Drive was reported at 12:20 p.m. The department was told the child was trapped in the basement.

When firefighters arrived, they began an “aggressive” attack and entered the home. They found the baby boy in a room in the basement behind a closed door.

Rescuers rushed the baby outside and immediately began treating him for smoke inhalation. The baby responded “very well” and was taken to University Hospitals Ahuja Medical Center in Beachwood for further treatment.

Several police officers and the homeowner were evaluated at the scene for possible smoke inhalation but no other injuries were reported. Two dogs and six cats also were safe.

Damage was contained mostly to the basement but there was minor smoke damage throughout the home, the news release says. Damage was estimated at $90,0000.

The Red Cross is working with the family on temporary housing.
