Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayAn animal sanctuary in Marana, Arizona, is reeling after a shocking break-in at its Tucson location left more than two dozen guinea pigs missing. According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, two young women were caught on surveillance footage around 1 a.m. Tuesday morning, covering a Ring camera before stealing 25 guinea pigs. Hours later, staff and volunteers arrived to discover doors damaged, supplies scattered across the floors, and cages emptied. The sense of loss was immediate and overwhelming, as these animals require constant attention and specialized care.

Board member Monique Signs described the devastation she felt when she realized what had happened. Rushing to the sanctuary, she was met with chaos—broken doors, scattered supplies, and the heartbreaking absence of the guinea pigs she and others had dedicated themselves to protecting. Many of the stolen animals suffer from health issues and need medication, specialized diets, and controlled environments to survive. Without this support, their lives are at risk.

The discovery was made even more disturbing when staff noticed that the intruders had left behind no food, hay, or water. On top of the theft, the burglars scrawled an explicit message across the sanctuary’s whiteboard before leaving. Fellow board member Alexis Camero said watching the surveillance footage gave him chills, noting that the suspects’ movements showed planning rather than an impulsive act. “They weren’t just wandering in—they knew exactly what they were doing,” he explained.
Volunteers have since expressed deep concern for the well-being of the guinea pigs, emphasizing that all 25 had pre-existing health issues that made them especially vulnerable. The sanctuary stressed that they do not care about motives or punishment, only about getting the animals back safely. “We’ll gladly take them back, no questions asked,” Signs pleaded. “We just want them safe.”

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that detectives are working with local school resource officers in case the suspects are underage. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist with the investigation. For now, the sanctuary remains heartbroken, clinging to hope that the stolen guinea pigs will be returned before it is too late.
